Irrigation repair
in Lincoln.

Lincoln is unusual in writing the obligation down. Most cities tell you not to waste water. Lincoln’s municipal code goes further and makes keeping your pipes in repair — including the ones outside the house — a standing duty of whoever consumes the water, owner or not. It is not a drought measure and it does not switch off in winter.

The rules that apply to your address

Lincoln water rules.

Repair is an obligation, not a preference

Lincoln Municipal Code §13.04.410: “All consumers, whether owners or not, shall maintain and keep in good repair the water pipes on the interior and exterior of the property served.” That is the whole sentence. A failing irrigation lateral is not a maintenance item you get to defer indefinitely — it is something the code says you keep in repair.

Open hoses are prohibited outright

§13.04.420: watering lawns and gardens from an open hose is prohibited — “a spray or nozzle must, in all cases, be used.” This is permanent and unconditional, not tied to any shortage stage.

Waste is an infraction with a dollar figure

§13.04.440 makes it “unlawful and an infraction” to cause or allow water to flow away in unreasonable amounts. Enforcement escalates: warnings for the first and second violation in a year, up to $51 for the third, and up to $500 for the fourth and each one after.

We are not going to state your watering days, and here is why

The city’s current water page says supply is adequate and declares no stage. A legacy page still on the city’s own site says Lincoln is in Stage 2 under a Governor’s order from March 2022. Those two contradict each other, and a 2025 plan may have superseded the 2021 document the stage rules come from. Publishing a watering schedule we cannot stand behind would make this page worse than useless, so we confirm it with Public Works — (916) 434-2450 — before we program your controller. That call is part of the visit.

Check that the city is actually your provider

Lincoln provides water “to all residents within the incorporated City limits.” Properties in unincorporated Placer County with a Lincoln mailing address are generally served by Placer County Water Agency instead, under a different rulebook. Your bill is the only reliable answer.

The city will do an assessment for free

Lincoln’s Water-Wise House Call is free and thorough: exterior leak detection, sprinkler assessment, uniformity checks, irrigation and drainage analysis, meter and pressure checks, done by city staff. (916) 434-2450. If that is what you need, call them rather than us — we would rather say so. What it does not do is carry out the repair or take responsibility for the diagnosis being correct, which is the part you would be hiring us for.
